Important baluster vase, originating from Canton, a major port in southern China famous for its porcelain.
As is often the case with these art objects, the painter took advantage of the vase's circular shape to depict continuous scenes. Here, the theme of confrontation has been chosen. Characters in traditional dress, some on horseback and armed with swords, battle each other, brandishing shields and banners. These enamel decorations are predominantly green, pink, and orange, against a background of crackled ivory-colored porcelain.
The flared neck is decorated with Fo dogs representing handles.
The shoulder and base of this vase are marked by wide brown bands with dragons and raised motifs, while a thinner band highlights the rim.
Note the presence of a signature in Chinese characters on the underside of the object.
This pretty vase will bring Asia into your home with its colorful and lively decorations.
