Standing an impressive 13 inches tall, the piece has a wonderfully expressive silhouette, with a narrow tapered base rising into broad, rounded shoulders and a saturated ruby-red neck. The original fitted stopper provides the finishing flourish: a dramatic hand-formed sweep of clear glass enclosing smoky, earthy coloration and terminating in an elegant flame-like point.

The body is particularly beautiful, with layers of color appearing almost painterly beneath the textured glass. Washes of violet, turquoise, green, ochre, red, and soft white move across the surface in an abstract composition that changes noticeably as the bottle is turned. The brilliant red neck provides a striking contrast to the softer, atmospheric colors of the body.

Engman is known for bringing an exuberant, highly individual approach to Swedish glass design, and this piece beautifully demonstrates his ability to combine traditional glassmaking with color, movement, and sculptural form.

Substantial enough to stand alone as an art object, it would be equally compelling displayed on a bar, console, bookshelf, or among a collection of Scandinavian and modern studio glass.
