Great estate find by Florida artist Edith E. Ferullo (1928–2008). Original mid-century painting on canvas depicting a seated nude in beautiful shades of turquoise, aqua, cream and deep green. Signed Ferullo lower right.
I love the loose, almost abstract quality of this one—the heavy texture, visible brushwork and areas where the colors layer and break through give it a really great mid-century feel. The palette is fantastic.
The painting is housed in what appears to be its original hand-carved wood frame, which really makes the piece. The back retains Ferullo’s Fort Lauderdale studio stamp at 1749 N.E. 40th Street, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Ferullo was an American painter who lived in Fort Lauderdale. Her work included modernist and abstract compositions, and examples from the 1960s show the same strong color, texture and simplified figurative treatment seen here. She later exhibited locally, including with the Broward Art Guild and at Fort Lauderdale City Hall.
Overall measurements: 35” H x 31” W.
A fun, sexy piece of old Florida mid-century art—and one that looks even better in person.
Condition
Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear, surface texture, craquelure and areas of paint loss/rubbing, all visible in the photos and adding to the character of the work. The carved wood frame has expected wear and variation from age. Canvas and frame appear structurally sound. Please review all photos as they are part of the condition description.
I would not clean or touch up the painting. The aged surface is part of what makes this one look so good
