beautiful, highly collectible pair of genuine Art Deco bronze-clad bookendsmanufactured by the renowned Pompeian Bronze Company of New York City.
Dating back to the 1920s, this specific pattern is officially titled "The Scholar" and is stamped with the company's authentic production mold catalog No. 141 along the lower edge of the base.
The design features an exquisitely detailed, naturalistic sculpture of a nude young boy completely absorbed in reading a book, seated atop a decorative block base. These pieces were crafted using Pompeian's famous "bronze-clad" (galvano-bronze) electroforming technique, giving them a very heavy, solid feel and the substantial weight needed to securely hold up a row of books.
Condition:
The pair is in excellent antique condition with a wonderful, rich, deep chocolate-brown patina. The bronze skin is beautifully preserved with minimal wear consistent with age, and the delicate sculptural details remain sharp and crisp.
