It's Nupe work from central Nigeria's Niger River basin, a tradition that favors this kind of varied, panel-by-panel emblem over one motif run the length of the door. Three vertical hardwood planks are joined edge to edge and braced across the back with horizontal timber cleats, honest construction still readable today, finished in a deep, weathered patina. Small diamond and triangular shapes fill the gaps between the animals, more pattern than symbol we'd want to overstate without more to go on. At 23 inches wide and 66 inches tall, it's narrow enough to slot into a stair landing or a tight hallway wall where most pieces this tall wouldn't fit, and dense enough with carving to hold attention at that scale. Hang it somewhere it gets walked past daily, the animals are worth noticing more than once.
