Look at this door long enough and it starts to read like a diagram: two guardian figures with their arms thrown open, ringed medallions locking around a coiled cord, and at the center, a figure standing directly over a spiraling emblem the carver clearly meant to be studied, not glanced at. It's Igbo, from southeastern Nigeria, where carvers built a visual language from concentric circles, pellet rows, and interlace knotwork long before any of it was written down. The whole face reads as one composition, three vertical registers boxed by a braided cable border, the twin figures standing guard over the woven medallions below them, the taller central figure and its spiral doing the real talking.
Age shows exactly where it should: in the grain lifting along the plank, in a patina gone silver-gray with handling, in a carved pivot extension standing in for hardware that was never applied in the first place. At 30 inches wide and 53 inches tall (door only, the finial adds a bit more), it holds a wall on its own without overwhelming it, dense enough with pattern to earn a second look from across the room and a third up close. Set it where people pause, a stair landing, a hallway turn, beside a reading chair, and let the spiral do its work.
