It's the kind of detail that rewards knowing a little of the story behind it. Above and below, basket-weave lattice registers are divided by beaded rope-twist bands, the same confident, layered composition we've come to recognize in this tradition. The wood carries a rich, aged patina, and on the reverse a horizontal timber brace helps hold the panel steady. We'll note honestly that the surrounding frame reads to us as a later addition for mounting and display rather than the door's original build, the color and wear don't quite match the carved panel itself, and we'd rather tell you that plainly than let the piece oversell its own history. What's genuinely original here, the moon medallion, the lattice, the beadwork, speaks for itself. We'd place this African door somewhere its central motif catches the eye first and its layered borders reward the second look.
