Vintage 1940s two-color cotton quilt in the Streak of Lightning pattern, made from golden maize yellow and cobalt blue broadcloth pieced in large stepped blocks that create a bold diagonal zigzag across the surface. Machine pieced and hand-tied with red embroidery thread, backed in sections of plain white cotton muslin. Thin cotton batting inside. Hand-whipped stitching on the back.
The construction is straightforward and naive. The blocks aren't perfectly even and the pattern shifts slightly as it moves across the surface, giving it a slightly off-kilter, folk art quality.
