These miniature versions of muñoz's celebrated riaza chair combine a strong architectural walnut frame with beautifully aged cognac saddle leather. The leather forms the seat and backrest in a continuous suspended construction and is wrapped and secured around the wooden frame, giving the chairs their unmistakable sculptural character. The warm cognac leather has developed a particularly attractive natural patina, with variations in tone, surface marks and traces of use that document the history and authenticity of the pieces. Against the dark walnut frames, the richly aged leather creates a striking contrast. Paco muñoz's riaza design is one of the most recognizable examples of spanish mid-century seating. Its construction draws upon the tradition of spanish campaign, hunting and friar chairs while translating these references into a distinctly modern design language.
