This complete triptych by Toyoyoshi (豊宜), dated Meiji 15 (1882), captures the moment with a masterly snow setting - the monk Yokogawa Kakuhan pressing through the drifts by a waterfall as the hero rides on - a composition praised by the Japanese seller for its urgent, finely drawn atmosphere.

Each sheet measures approximately 36.1-36.5 x 24.3 cm; the triptych spans roughly 73 cm (28.7 in) combined. The set is unbacked and shows honest age: soiling, creases, stains, flaking and small tears may be present, all reflected in the photographs.
