Issued by the German and Austrian Alpine Association, these finely executed botanical plates illustrate a remarkable selection of alpine louseworts (Pedicularis), among the most distinctive flowering plants of Europe's mountain landscapes. Produced under the scientific editorship of Dr. Palla of the University of Graz, the illustrations were based on original botanical studies by the renowned Austrian artist Anton Hartinger and reproduced using the advanced photolithographic process developed by Nenke & Ostermaier of Dresden. The publication remains one of the finest nineteenth-century botanical atlases dedicated to the flora of the Alps. The set includes the following species: Pedicularis verticillata (Whorled Lousewort) Pedicularis elongata (Long-spiked Lousewort) Pedicularis incarnata (Pink Lousewort) Pedicularis rostrata (Beaked Lousewort) Pedicularis caespitosa (Tufted Lousewort) Pedicularis asplenifolia (Fern-leaved Lousewort) Pedicularis geminata (Twin-flowered Lousewort) Pedicularis acaulis (Stemless Lousewort) Together these eight plates provide an outstanding overview of the remarkable diversity of the genus Pedicularis, featuring species with striking pink, crimson, purple, and creamy-white flowers, combined with beautifully dissected fern-like foliage. Many of these plants are endemic to the Alpine regions and remain sought after by botanists, alpine gardeners, and collectors of natural history illustrations. Each print retains its original German title together with habitat and flowering information, providing valuable historical and scientific context. Their refined compositions, muted color palette, and botanical precision make them equally suitable as scientific illustrations and decorative works of art. Displayed together in two rows of four, the prints create a sophisticated botanical gallery wall. Wide ivory museum mats combined with slim walnut, bronze, or black frames beautifully complement their subtle chromolithographic colors, making them ideal for libraries, studies, mountain homes, country houses, or contemporary interiors. This is a set of eight original antique prints. Any framed or interior images are for inspiration only. The prints are sold unframed.
