A cherrywood chest of drawers in the Louis XV style, crafted in the second half of the 20th century and modeled after French Rococo furniture. The curved frame, the clearly structured drawer fronts, and the splayed legs create a balanced, formally cohesive overall impression. Historical Context: In 18th-century France, the chest of drawers evolved into the central storage piece in private homes, combining practical storage with a prestigious design. The Louis XV style, with its curved lines, shell ornamentation, and cabriole legs, profoundly influenced this type of furniture. In the second half of the 20th century, European workshops revived these models through serial and handcrafted production, making classic interior design accessible to middle-class households. Such period furniture was primarily used in bedrooms, living rooms, and entryways. Features: Lower drawer with a raised, double-profiled front, visually appearing as two separate drawers. Carved shell and leaf ornamentation on the curved apron, as well as accentuated corner pilasters.
Design: The piece follows the design language of Louis XV/Rococo: curved cabriole legs with volute finials, profiled frame fronts with scrolled volutes, and rocaille-shaped metal handles. The proportions are calm and clearly structured; the ornamentation remains concentrated on the apron and corners, giving the piece a restrained appearance despite its dynamic lines. This is a reproduction piece based on a historical model, not a piece from the period itself.
Dimensions: Height 84 × Width 89 × Depth 63 cm. Material and Condition: Cherry wood. Very good condition with only minor signs of age-related wear; inspected and cleaned by Kastellan. The chest of drawers has two drawers, the lower of which has a high front and appears visually as two drawers.
