A striking matched pair of antique Victorian parlor/slipper chairs dating to approximately the turn of the 20th century, upholstered in classic black-and-cream pastoral toile.
The chairs feature gracefully shaped upholstered backs and arms, rounded seats, turned front legs terminating in casters, splayed rear legs, and decorative wood aprons. The traditional toile depicts pastoral figures, landscapes, trees, animals, and architectural scenes, giving the pair a fresh and sophisticated appearance while complementing their antique silhouettes beautifully.
The chairs have been reupholstered at some point in their history and have black protective dust covers on the undersides. Decorative gimp trim finishes the upholstery edges.
The wooden frames retain the character expected of antique furniture, including finish wear, scratches, rubbing, and other age-related marks, most noticeably on the legs and lower portions of the frames. The upholstery presents very well. Please review all photographs closely, including the underside and leg photographs, as they form an important part of the condition description.
Their relatively petite proportions make these especially appealing as bedroom chairs, fireside chairs, occasional seating, or a matched pair of accent chairs in a traditional, English-inspired, French-country, or collected interior.
