Description:
An exceptional set of six Passion 246 dining armchairs, designed by internationally acclaimed French designer Philippe Starck for Cassina, Italy, in 2007.Among Starck's more sophisticated seating designs for Cassina, the Passion combines an unmistakably futuristic silhouette with the refinement and comfort of traditional upholstered furniture. The design is particularly striking for the contrast between its sleek, sculptural exterior shell and its luxurious button-tufted leather interior.
Design & Construction
Each chair is formed around a beautifully curved and enveloping molded nylon shell, creating the distinctive wraparound silhouette characteristic of the Passion series. Viewed from the rear, the chairs present a remarkably clean and architectural appearance, with their smooth glossy black exterior shells reflecting light and emphasizing the continuous sculptural curves of the design.The interiors provide a dramatic textural counterpoint. The seats, backs, and gently flared sides are padded and upholstered in supple black leather, finished with Cassina's distinctive capitonné-style button tufting. The restrained geometric pattern gives the leather depth and visual richness without compromising the chair's streamlined contemporary profile.The shells are supported by extraordinarily slender four-leg bases finished in black. Their tapered profile gives the chairs an almost weightless appearance, allowing the substantial upholstered shells to appear suspended above the floor.The result is a sophisticated juxtaposition of gloss and matte surfaces, rigid molded structure and soft leather upholstery, and classical capitonné detailing with distinctly futuristic form.

The set is presented in Excellent vintage/pre-owned condition, showing only very minor surface marks and light signs of use consistent with age and careful residential ownership.The glossy black exterior shells retain their dramatic polished appearance, while the black leather interiors remain handsome and well presented.
