Offered is a complete set of the 1949 editions of the 14 volume collection of Childcraft educational and literature books published by Field Enterprises.
We confess that we fell in love with the graphics and illustrations, but diving in to the text was a feast of nostalgia and joy.
It includes children's stories, poetry, science, art, and parental guidance, often featuring distinct red or orange-brown bindings. The first 12 volumes are regular-sized books (7" wide, 10" tall. .75" deep) and volumes 13 and 14 are large format gems (14" wide, 9.75" tall, .5" deep). While wonderful for children, the adults in the home just might enjoy these even more.

A bit of the history:
In the 1920a Quarrie Corp. produced a children's desk and included 2 children's books as a marketing gift. Within a few years they realized that the desks were good but the books were great. They began to publish a starter set in 1934 as a reference encyclopedia for children to rival the World Book encyclopedia for adults, adding volumes as the years went on. Marshall Fields III purchased the Quarrie Corp. in the mid 1940s, and this 1949 set is the first produced by Fields Enterprises, and it took off from there.
