An original Meiji-period woodblock print by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) from 'Dainihon Meishokan' (Great Generals of Japan, 大日本名将鑑), his celebrated gallery of warrior portraits. The subject is Kusunoki Masashige, the legendary loyalist general of the 14th century, whose story became a touchstone of samurai virtue.
Sheet approx. 24 x 36 cm (9.4 x 14.2 in). The previous seller noted age-related toning, stains and paper wear, and stated that precise dating details were not documented. A handsome, honest Yoshitoshi warrior print from one of his most collected series.
