An original woodblock print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861) from his celebrated Suikoden (Water Margin) series, depicting the hero Tang Long (湯隆), nicknamed the Golden Coin Angler, with his distinctive Kurikara dragon tattoo. Kuniyoshi's Suikoden designs - published from 1827 onward - are among the most iconic images in all of ukiyo-e and are credited with launching his fame as the great master of the warrior print.
This impression comes from a long-held Japanese collector's group of ukiyo-e assembled by a Kyushu researcher; the seller confirmed that no modern reproductions are mixed into the group. As with many prints from this source, condition shows age-appropriate wear and some prints in the group have repairs; please study the photos closely. The exact edition date of this impression was not documented.
