"China" in the mark " Patent Ironstone China" does not mean the piece was made
in China. In the early 19th century, English potters used the word "China" as a
marketing term for any fine, white, durable ceramic that they wanted to associate
with the prestige of Chinese Porcelain which was highly priced in Europa at that time.
These tureens are mid 19th Century English Ironstone in a blue and white transfer
print in Chinoiserie style.
The pattern is a standard Blue Willow/Turner's Willow variant, showing the familiar
bridge with figures, willow tree's pagodas and water.
The two dishes are in excellent condition. See less
