This is an absolutely monumental and striking vintage Chinese hand-carved sculpture of a traditional Dragon Boat. Crafted from natural animal horn (likely buffalo or ox horn), the piece showcases a rich, dark reddish-brown color that glows with a beautiful translucent amber hue when light hits it.
The Design: The front of the boat features an intricately carved, fierce dragon head serving as the prow, while the back features a sweeping, feathered tail. The main cabin is detailed with miniature traditional pavilions and a textured roof. Rising from the deck are three massive, crossed masts.
The Sails: The masts are strung with multiple curved, semi-circular panels representing wind-filled sails, creating a dynamic sense of motion. The entire ship rests securely on a large, matching carved wood base featuring swirling cloud and wave motifs.
In Chinese culture, a boat under full sail symbolizes "Smooth Sailing" (Yi Fan Feng Shun) and success in business and life. Because of its massive size (standing nearly 29 inches tall) and delicate protruding parts, it is a true statement piece for a grand room, foyer, or high-end boutique display.
