Solid carved from a single boulder of mottled celadon nephrite jade with chicken-bone inclusions, the recumbent duck is finely detailed with layered plumage, its head turned back over its shoulder holding a long lotus spray in its beak. The bird wears a carved collar at the neck, and the underside is carved with webbed feet and a two-character spurious Guangxu (光绪) seal mark.
An impressive scale example - a true statement sculpture with significant presence. Chinese Mandarin Duck is a classic symbol of marital fidelity and enduring love.
