Exceptional miniature salesman’s sample representing a Hobart Crescent commercial electric dishwasher and glasswasher. Fabricated primarily from sheet metal, the model closely recreates the full-sized machine with a rounded lift-style hood, riveted framework, open lower structure, brass-tone hardware, and a small simulated motor assembly. An applied oval plaque reads “Hobart Crescent Electric Dishwashers and Glasswashers, Troy, Ohio, U.S.A.”
Likely produced as a portable demonstration model for sales presentations, trade exhibitions, or showroom displays, the sample allowed representatives to illustrate the machine’s construction without transporting a full-scale commercial unit. Its detailed industrial fabrication and surviving branded plaque make it an unusual artifact of early American commercial kitchen technology.
Founded in Troy, Ohio, in 1897, Hobart expanded from electrical equipment into food-service machinery and entered commercial warewashing after acquiring the Crescent Washing Machine Company in 1926.
