Hand-colored engravings like this one were produced in Paris in the final decades of the 18th century by pairing a draughtsman's original design with an engraver's plate, then finishing each printed impression by hand with watercolor washes. This example carries both names directly on the plate: drawn by J. Freudenberg, engraved by P. Malœuvre, and dated 1774.
The scene, titled "Le Boudoir," depicts a woman seated within her private chamber, framed by draped curtains and finely rendered wall paneling, with a second figure appearing near a window in the background. Below the image, a decorative cartouche carries the title alongside a short moralizing verse, a convention common to French genre prints of the period. The engraving is housed in a carved giltwood frame worked with scrolling foliate motifs.
The piece presents in good antique condition, with light age-related toning to the paper. The gilded frame shows visible wear, including a small section of missing wood — please refer to the photos for the full extent of this.
