Italy, 1960s origin italy period 1960s designer angelo mangiarotti (milan, 1921 – milan, 2012) italian architect, sculptor and designer, one of the protagonists of modernism in the second half of the twentieth century, esteemed for his refined and rigorous approach to materials. He graduated in architecture from the polytechnic university of milan in 1948 and then moved to the united states, where he was a visiting professor at the illinois institute of technology in chicago and developed relationships with frank lloyd wright, walter gropius, ludwig mies van der rohe and konrad wachsmann, figures who profoundly influenced his work. Upon returning to italy, he developed a constant research on the essentiality of form and the honesty of materials, from marble to ceramic to glass, collaborating with knoll, skipper, gabbianelli, agape and fratelli brambilla, among others. Since 2010, agape casa has been producing his most famous designs under license. His works are held in major international design museums.
