A "safari" vase, model 1495, designed by tamara aladin for riihimäen lasi oy and in production between 1968 and 1974.
the design combines a broad, smooth chalice with a slender textured stem - a silhouette that manages to feel both minimalist and monumental. The lower section carries a coarse bark-like surface, worked in the mould, that softly diffuses the light, while the polished upper rim brings clarity and balance.
executed in a subtle smoky blue-grey, the glass changes character through the day, revealing delicate shifts of colour depending on the surrounding light.
the thick-walled, mould-blown construction reflects the standards riihimäen lasi held through its most celebrated decades.
very good vintage condition. No chips or cracks. A faint circular shadow inside the bowl marks where the original riihimäen lasi foil label sat; the label is no longer present. Light base scuffs consistent with age.
tamara aladin, a central figure in finnish post-war glass alongside nanny still and helena tynell, achieved a perfect balance between organic brutalist texture and nordic architectural minimalism. A refined statement piece for collector shelving or contemporary tabletops.
dimensions: height 26 cm | diameter at top approx. 8 cm. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
