Each of the four faces carries a different abstract relief — blocks, bars and a bold cross motif — so the vase reads as a new object with every quarter turn.
The deep cobalt core is cased in clear glass, which magnifies the pattern and throws blue light across whatever surface it stands on. Heavy in the hand, with the density that pressed glass of this period gives.

Josef Schott (1915-2009) was born in Bohemia, came to Sweden in 1955 and spent his career as head designer at Smålandshyttan, one of the smaller and now most sought-after glassworks in the Småland district. He was also a sculptor whose public work stands in southern Sweden and in London. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
