A 19th-century bronze desk inkwell with a rich openwork design inspired by the Neo-Renaissance style.
Rectangular in shape, it consists of a wide, molded-edged tray framing an openwork design of scrolls, foliage, and stylized motifs.
It holds two symmetrically arranged covered inkwells with domed lids adorned with relief motifs and topped with foliate bud handles.
The design is completed on all four sides by substantial handles and openwork ornaments, giving this piece a particularly decorative silhouette.
The casting and chasing are of fine quality.
The bronze retains an antique patina, with signs of use and minor oxidation consistent with its age.
