This set of two side tables was designed in the 1970s by Belgian designer Claire Bataille for the Dutch company Spectrum. The frame is constructed from chrome-plated steel tubes that curve smoothly downwards at every angle to form the legs. That is precisely where a beautiful detail lies. Two tubes run parallel to each other, creating a different interplay of lines from every angle. The rounded shape is repeated at the top in the frame surrounding the glass. The smoked glass tops are recessed within this construction and rest on small supports. The transparent grey of the glass keeps the design airy and allows the chrome to show through the top as well. Both tables have their original glass tops. The tint of the smoked glass differs slightly between them, something that is subtly visible when used side by side. with their size, the tables are easy to use individually next to a sofa or armchair, but it is precisely as a pair that the rhythm of the tubular frame comes out beautifully. The design has clear characteristics of the 1970s, but has remained surprisingly timeless due to the limited use of materials and the calm geometry. In our workshop, we have carefully cleaned both tables and treated the chrome with a high-quality metal wax. The glass is in neat vintage condition, without chips or cracks.
