A sculptural ice glass vase in the Finnish tradition of the 1970s, built in two layers: a core of deep amber-brown glass, over which a heavy clear layer was gathered hot and torn open into a crown of jagged, petal-like flanges.
The contrast is the whole idea. The dark core reads almost black at the waist and warms to honey where the light passes through, while the clear outer layer is left in a raw frozen texture that scatters light in every direction.
The rim is unpolished by design - each flange finished at the furnace, so no two are alike.
Finnish glasshouses of the period built their international reputation on exactly this: the deliberate roughness of ice and rock translated into tableware and interiors.
