Carved from a substantial … Read more Beautiful antique hand-carved wooden vessel believed to be a traditional Indian Ukhali grinding or mortar pot. Carved from a substantial single piece of wood, this unusual piece has a sculptural hourglass form, deeply textured surface, naturally aged pale/bleached finish, and an old iron ring attached to the base.

The interior shows extensive wear and age, giving the piece wonderful primitive character. Two intentionally formed openings extend from the bottom of the bowl through the base. Their exact original function is unknown and adds to the interesting utilitarian construction of the piece.

Today, it makes a striking decorative object for a console, bookshelf, coffee table, kitchen, or collection of primitive and global antiques. Its smaller size makes it especially easy to incorporate into a styled interior.
