Highly rare ‘Dione’ lounge chair designed by Gastone Rinaldi and manufactured by Rima in 1957. This remarkable piece is an outstanding example of postwar Italian design, distinguished by its dynamic silhouette and constructional ingenuity. The sculptural frame is made of solid spring steel finished in black, giving the chair a strong architectural presence. The floating seat is a defining element of the design, creating a light and airy aesthetic while also providing exceptional comfort. This particular example is preserved in fully original condition, which is exceptionally rare. The woven beige fabric upholstery is entirely intact and beautifully patinated, with no damages or restorations. This level of preservation reflects the great care the piece has received throughout its lifetime. The structural clarity of the black frame contrasts elegantly with the natural tone of the cushions, underlining the refined simplicity of Rinaldi’s vision. The fully upholstered armrests add both comfort and balance to the design. The Dione chair represents one of Rinaldi’s most elegant and technically sophisticated creations, revealing his deep understanding of ergonomics and metal craftsmanship. An armless version of this model is documented in; Gastone Rinaldi, designer alla rima, underscoring its importance within the designer’s oeuvre and its relevance in the history of modern Italian seating, although this specific one with arms was not published, underscoring its rarity.
