Striking Art Deco patinated bronze sculpture after Bruno Zach’s celebrated The Riding Crop (The Crop), a provocative composition originally conceived during the 1920s.
The elongated female figure is portrayed in high heels and abbreviated attire, with her garment lowered from her shoulders and her arms restrained behind her. The highly stylized pose and risqué subject reflect the sophisticated, sometimes daring imagery for which Bruno Zach became particularly well known.
Cast in bronze with a dark brown-black patina and rubbed golden-bronze highlights that accentuate the figure’s contours, clothing and modeled details. The bronze is mounted on a substantial cylindrical pedestal of beautifully figured green-gray marble with a molded circular foot.
This example is conservatively attributed as After Bruno Zach and is believed to be a later decorative casting based upon Zach’s original model rather than a documented lifetime casting.
A wonderfully theatrical Art Deco accent for a library, study, dressing room or eclectic interior.
