The pair is particularly notable … Read more A substantial pair of large solid oak nightstands, likely custom-made in Europe during the 1980s. The pair is particularly notable for its generous scale and robust craftsmanship. Each piece combines a broad rectangular top and spacious single drawer with an architectural oak case raised on elaborately turned legs connected by matching turned stretchers. Beautiful natural variation in the solid oak grain gives the pieces considerable visual character, while the warm finish emphasizes the material and traditional construction. The contrast between the restrained rectangular upper body and richly turned base creates a distinctive design that works equally well in traditional, eclectic and contemporary interiors. At 71 cm / 28 inches wide and 65 cm / 25.6 inches deep, these are considerably larger than conventional nightstands. Their scale makes them especially suitable alongside a king-size bed, while their proportions also allow them to function beautifully as end tables or substantial side tables in a living room. The pair was carefully refurbished while retaining the natural character and patina of the wood. Very good vintage condition with minor signs of use and age.
