This highly decorative ceiling light represents … Read more Exceptional large-scale 28-light sputnik chandelier manufactured by kamenický šenov in czechoslovakia during the 1970s. This highly decorative ceiling light represents the exuberant space age aesthetic of postwar czechoslovak lighting design. Twenty-eight individual brass and brass-plated metal arms radiate dramatically from a polished spherical central body, forming a striking three-dimensional sunburst composition. The arms are arranged at different angles and lengths, creating an impressive sculptural silhouette measuring approximately 96 cm / 37.8 inches in diameter. Each terminates in an elongated tapered brass socket cover with an exposed globe bulb. Once illuminated, the numerous exposed light sources produce a dramatic constellation-like effect and emphasize the polished golden surfaces of the fixture. Its generous proportions make it particularly suitable as a centerpiece above a dining table, in a large living room, entrance hall, staircase, hotel or other substantial architectural interior. Importantly, the chandelier retains its original kamenický šenov manufacturer’s label, identifying the fixture as model 95-021-28 and specifying 250 v and 28 × 60 w. The fixture comes from old stock and has never been used, an unusual characteristic for a lighting piece of this period. It remains in very good vintage condition with minor signs related primarily to age and storage. The combination of its extraordinary number of light sources, radial geometry and polished brass finish gives the chandelier a powerful sputnik, atomic and space age character, while its elegant proportions allow it to work equally well within sophisticated mid-century modern and contemporary interiors.
