An impressive antique American Tramp Art wall-mounted letter holder dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1890–1915. Handcrafted from layers of intricately chip-carved wood, it features a rich dark finish, decorative brass upholstery tacks, a dramatic stepped crest, and a carved pendant finial.
The generously sized open pocket was originally designed to organize letters, newspapers, or household documents. At an unusually substantial 33 inches tall, the piece has wonderful sculptural presence and displays the geometric carving and imaginative construction prized in authentic American Tramp Art.
