“Pastoral Landscape With Cattle”

A charming original 19th-century graphite drawing depicting a peaceful pastoral landscape animated by grazing cattle.

Several cows rest and graze across an open meadow while a small seated figure appears in the foreground. At right, an impressive group of mature trees frames a small architectural structure partially hidden among the foliage, while the landscape gently recedes into the distance.

The artist uses subtle variations of graphite to create depth and atmosphere, from the finely worked foreground vegetation to the softly rendered distant landscape.

This intimate composition belongs to the European 19th-century tradition of pastoral landscape drawing, in which figures and animals quietly inhabit a landscape that remains the true focus of the work.

Good overall antique condition. The paper shows gentle age toning with scattered minor marks and foxing consistent with age. See less
