Discover a captivating piece of 20th-century Latin American graphic art history.
This original 1970 color etching, titled "Gallo Azul" (Blue Rooster), was created by the celebrated late Argentine artist Margarita Galetar (1921–2011).
Far more than a standard flat print, this work is a three-dimensional paper relief sculpture. Galetar utilized a specialized, dimensional intaglio process where the deep indigo and cobalt elements of the rooster's plumage were meticulously hand-cut and layered. This advanced printmaking technique raises the silhouette above the natural background texture, casting elegant, shifting shadows that accentuate its sculptural depth.
The artwork features excellent, verified provenance. It is hand-signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right margin and numbered 17/110 on the left, indicating a highly exclusive, limited edition run.
The reverse retains its rare, original vintage Dymo embossed gallery tracking label detailing the artist, title, medium, and exact creation year (1970).
The piece has been expertly preserved and updated in a substantial 31" x 27" premium custom frame. It features a museum-style double-mat layout—combining a crisp cobalt blue inner mat reveal with a warm terracotta/peach outer mat.
This multi-layered matting acts as a built-in protective spacer, ensuring the glass never touches or compresses the delicate 3D paper layers.
A wide cream outer molding perfectly sets off the composition, making it a ready-to-hang focal piece for Mid-Century Modern, Eclectic, or upscale Folk Art interiors.
