The top lid is decorated with exquisite relief carving depicting a classic Chinese motif: two lively fish swimming among blooming lotus flowers and large lily pads. In Chinese culture, this scene is a traditional pun for "Nian Nian You Yu" (连年有余), which translates to "Abundance year after year" or "Surplus every year," making it a highly auspicious piece.
