Elevate your vanity, desk, or bookshelf with this striking early 20th-century Japanese mixed-metal trinket box. The heavy-gauge lid features a highly detailed, deeply embossed (repousse) motif of a traditional twisting dragon amidst swirling clouds. Flanking the dragon are two prominent kanji characters symbolizing wishing virtues: (Fuku) for good fortune and prosperity and (Kotobuki) for longevity and a long life. The sides of the box are finished with a crisp, geometric Greek key pattern border.
Originally crafted as a decorative cigarette or tobacco humidor, the interior features a clean wood lining that makes it excellent for protecting fine jewelry, watch collections, desk supplies, or everyday keepsakes. A wonderful statement piece for collectors of Asian art, Art Deco metalwork, or unique antique accents.
