The desk was acquired from a Brazilian diplomatic entity in Brasília, giving the piece a particularly compelling provenance. Rodrigues maintained an important relationship with the Brazilian government during this period, designing furniture and interiors for official institutions both in Brazil and abroad. Most notably, he was commissioned in 1959 to develop the interiors of Palazzo Pamphilj on Piazza Navona in Rome, the Brazilian Embassy in Italy, for which he conceived an extensive family of executive and diplomatic furnishings.
