A wonderfully unexpected piece of large-scale dimensional wall art, handcrafted from more than 2,000 individual wine corks arranged into a dramatic circular assemblage.
Measuring approximately 48 inches in diameter, the work has extraordinary texture and presence. Thousands of natural corks in varying tones create an organic, almost mosaic-like surface, punctuated by occasional corks in white, turquoise, blue and red. Viewed from across a room, the piece reads as an abstract textural composition; up close, the individual corks and their markings invite a closer look.
According to the previous owner, it was constructed by his father, who was an engineer. This is an exceptionally substantial piece, weighing approximately 36 pounds. The cork assemblage is mounted on thick plywood and reinforced on the reverse with 2x4 wood supports, giving the work a solid, architectural quality.
A fantastic statement piece for a dining room, wine room, bar, restaurant or contemporary interior—and an especially fun choice for a serious wine collector.
