Iconic 1970s Space Age fully functional “Dancing Shelf” / “Wiggly Shelf,” featuring a sculptural black tubular-steel framework, transparent shelves, and distinctive spherical joints.
This highly unusual vintage shelving piece is a wonderful example of 1970s Space Age design. The kinetic-looking structure consists of slender black lacquered tubular supports connected by numerous spherical joints, creating the signature articulated, almost animated silhouette that gives the design its “Dancing Shelf” name.
The five transparent display shelves keep the structure visually light while allowing the sculptural framework to remain fully visible. The piece has been artistically customized with vivid orange spherical accents, giving the otherwise monochromatic original design an exuberant Pop Art character. The lowest shelf has also been customized with a graphic black-and-orange checkerboard treatment.
The top shelf features a removable peel-and-stick decorative window film that has been applied over a surface scuff. The film is an owner-applied customization and can be easily removed if desired.
The result is a one-of-a-kind interpretation of an already highly unusual vintage design, combining 1970s Space Age futurism with bold contemporary color.
Perfect for a collector of Space Age furniture, Pop Art, Postmodern design, or anyone looking for an extraordinary display piece.
Original vintage shelving structure dating to circa 1970; orange spherical accents and checkerboard shelf treatment are later owner-applied customizations.
Height: 58"
Width: 15"
Depth/Length: 15"
Please note: This sculptural shelf features movable/dancing elements that extend outward when in motion, increasing the overall width beyond the listed 15" footprint.

The black tubular framework shows some minor surface wear/scuffing, and the clear shelves show light signs of age and use. One shelf has a surface scuff that is currently concealed by a removable peel-and-stick decorative window film applied by the owner; the film can be removed if desired. The orange spherical accents and checkerboard treatment are later owner-applied customizations. Please review photos for additional details. less
