Matte porcelain plate from Gilbert Portanier’s “Alta Mira” series for Rosenthal Studio-Line, produced in Germany during the 1970s–1980s.
The satin-white surface is decorated with abstract figures, calligraphic gestures and symbolic forms in cobalt blue, red, turquoise, ochre, yellow and gold. Its bright palette and free, painterly composition reflect Portanier’s characteristic fusion of ceramics, drawing and Mediterranean imagery.
Measuring 28 cm in diameter and 7 cm high, the plate has a gently curved, sculptural form. It can be displayed individually, incorporated into a grouped plate wall or presented horizontally as a decorative shallow bowl. Its luminous white ground also provides an effective contrast to the darker charcoal-grey pieces from Portanier’s “Liguria” series. The display stand shown is not included. This piece has an attribution mark,
