A dramatic Mid-Century Modern figurative sculpture by American artist Peggy Mach, depicting a reclining female nude emerging from an organically modeled, highly textured surround. The beautifully rendered figure has a smooth, almost marble-like surface that contrasts dramatically with the rugged, expressionistic texture surrounding her.
Raised upon a simple black rectangular plinth, the sculpture has a strong architectural presence and is particularly effective viewed from across a room. Peggy Mach is associated with Alva Museum Reproductions (AMR), for whom she designed a number of figurative sculptures during the early 1970s. Documented examples include signed and dated works from 1971.
