This is a truly impressive and substantial matching pair of vintage Chinese cloisonné elephant sculptures. Crafted from solid copper and heavy enamel, these pieces feel incredibly solid and weigh a combined 36 pounds (16.3 kg), making them a commanding presence in any room.
The elephants are depicted in a proud, standing posture with raised trunks—a traditional symbol of good luck, strength, and prosperity. Their bodies are covered in vibrant turquoise-blue enamel, heavily decorated with intricate floral motifs and scrolling vines outlined in delicate brass wirework. They feature prominent, polished gilded (gold-toned) ears, tusks, and feet.
Each elephant wears a brightly colored, richly textured saddle blanket in shades of gold, red, green, and pink, symbolizing wealth and royal status.
