Offered is a framed oil painting depicting a historic British street scene featuring The New Inn (a famous medieval coaching … Read more Offered is a framed oil painting depicting a historic British street scene featuring The New Inn (a famous medieval coaching inn located in Gloucester, England), populated with 19th-century attired figures and framed in an ornate, molded gold-toned wooden frame. A nocturnal or dusk streetscape centered around the half-timbered heritage building marked "The New Inn," complete with period figures in top hats and bonnets, glowing lit windows, and shadowy architectural details. Set inside a decorative vintage-style gilt/antiqued gold frame with corner ornamentation and a textured inner liner. Traditional representational/impressionistic oil painting style characteristic of mid-to-late 20th-century decorative fine art depicting nostalgic British or European townscapes. Lovely texture and strokes, no glass. We have a fondness for the chiaroscuro of Old England stormy night against the glowing windows.

A personal bio of artist:
Widower, Garnet, met Pat in the early 1950s when both worked as journalists in the then male-dominated world of local newspapers He said: "She was a vibrant personality but also very gentle and she enjoyed working in public. "She would get children coming in to talk to her and she would show them what she was doing and give a child a paintbrush and say, 'Here you are, you have a go'. "Pat had a great love of children and would supervise them. Children usually featured in her works as she was a great family person and adored her five grandchildren."

Garnet says Pat sold many thousands of her paintings to people all over the world, initially from the Westbourne premises, which he started as a stamp collectors' shop in the early 1960s. By 1971 Pat had turned the shop into a successful art gallery and studio where many will remember her sitting and working. It was there that she painted countless Dorset scenes from sketches she had made, including Corfe Castle, Thomas Hardy's cottage, Gold Hill and idyllic pictures of thatched cottages.
Garnet and Pat had three children in the 1960s - Tansy, Tina and Trevor. She saw five grandchildren, Chris, Danielle, Ben, Jonah and Olivia. See less
