Overview:
Up for your consideration is a truly monumental piece of vintage Japanese studio pottery (Mingei folk art movement), hand-thrown during the mid-to-late 20th century. This substantial floor vase features a dramatic, flared profile punctuated by six masterfully sculpted open-loop ring handles scaling the neck.
Glaze & Artistry:The vase showcases a classic Kuro-Tanba (Black Tanba) split-glaze aesthetic. The lower bulbous body is wrapped in a rich, matte black slip, while the upper collar features a flowing, iron-rich mustard-brown ash glaze. High-relief, volcanic splatter accents ripple down the center, creating a spectacular, highly tactile contrast celebrating natural elements.
Origin:The unglazed base bears the incised, handwritten vertical signature mark 「丹波の作」 (Tanba no saku), identifying it directly as an authentic creation from the renowned Tanba-Tachikui region of Hyogo Prefecture—historically celebrated as one of Japan's legendary Six Ancient Kilns.
Condition:Pristine vintage condition. Excellent preservation with absolutely zero chips, cracks, flea bites, or hairline fractures. The coarse, iron-rich stoneware body is structurally perfect and ready to display.Dimensions:Height: 17 inches (43.2 cm)Width: 12 inches (30.5 cm) at the widest pointA commanding focal piece perfect for Mid-Century Modern, Minimalist, Japandi, or Wabi-Sabi interior design spaces.
