This is a Salter postal scale from England, with a capacity of 24 ounces, measured by the quarter ounce. It is a sturdy bronze with brass.
The scale says, “Salter Letter Balance, No. 11, 24 OZ. BY ¼ OZ., Made in England." The Salter mark looks like a braided pretzel with an arrow through it.
I tested the accuracy as best I could. My digital kitchen scale and this antique scale agreed to the tenth of an ounce. Voila.
The scale is 7½ inches tall. The dial is 4 inches in diameter. It is heavy at 2 pounds, 3.7 ounces.
The condition is excellent. This piece looks great on a shelf or desk, and it works.
