Hand-turned from solid teak wood and finished in a factory-lacquered purple coating, the design incorporates early space age, mid-century modern, and sculptural proto-postmodern elements. The structural form is explicitly engineered to be reversible, featuring contrasting dual-sized internal chambers at either end to accommodate two distinct widths of candle tapers. Visible lathe center point marks remain preserved inside the candle wells from the original artisanal production process. While the design is historically documented, surviving examples of the VIP-302-1 are exceptionally scarce. This specific pair presents a rare opportunity to acquire a complete matching set in the highly elusive purple colorway, a variant explicitly archived on the official Verner Panton digital catalogue of works.
