A wonderfully decorative framed work titled “La Folie,” depicting a spirited cherub-like figure dancing through an atmospheric landscape while holding a floral staff. Rendered in warm sepia and russet tones, the composition has a romantic, neoclassical character inspired by 18th-century French allegorical imagery.
The oval image is beautifully presented within layered cream and deep terracotta matting, finished with fine dark accent lines. An ornate gilt frame with repeating foliate and ribbon decoration gives the piece an especially rich, architectural presence.
The reverse retains a gold gallery label from The Fine Arts Gallery in Bronxville, New York, E. Restivo Art Consulting, Inc., adding an interesting element of provenance and indicating that the work was professionally framed and/or handled by the gallery.
A sophisticated decorative piece that would work particularly well in a traditional, French-inspired, Hollywood Regency, or collected eclectic interior.
