A Martini vermouth advertising poster after the celebrated 1921 design by Giorgio Muggiani (1887–1938) — among the most recognisable images in Italian commercial graphics. An androgynous figure hurtles diagonally through a rain of golden light, bottle in hand, the dark ground and luminous sparks generating the sensation of speed that ties the composition to the Futurist current running through Italian design of the period.

Muggiani was a self-taught painter and a pioneer of Italian advertising illustration, working for Moto Guzzi, Pirelli, Cinzano and Martini across a career that peaked in the 1920s and 1930s. He is remembered equally outside design circles: in 1908 he co-founded FC Internazionale Milano and drew the club's first crest, the black-and-blue emblem that Inter wore for decades.

This is a later printing, produced in the 1970s, and carries the printer's mark in the lower margin. Printed by lithography, showing continuous tone with no visible halftone screen.

In very good condition, with light handling consistent with age. Supplied rolled and unframed, in a manageable 65 × 45 cm format that frames easily without custom sizing. See less
